Driving to Silay on Byootipul Roads

Today, I drove my father to the Airport so he could go on a diplomatic mission and spread goodwill. He flew to Cebu this morning to meet his half-brother and to try to talk some sense to said person. The negotiations involve the two things that has caused almost all wars in human history: money and land. He's also going to look for cheap car tires over there.

He forgot his cellphone at home. On the way, we talked about the highway and other non-important stuff.

After my not-so-extensive-but-still-relatively-extensive travels all over the Philippines, I would have to say that the roads in Negros Island are some of the most byootipul. It feels different when I travel on these roads. They're wide and lined with green things and framed by blue skies. Just byootipul. I'm biased because I just love this island too much.

Of course, this byootipul-ness is more than made up for by the stupid, selfish, reckless, thoughtless, law-breaking drivers that ply the byootipul roads.

It's less than a year until Elections so there be lotsa road repairs. This one's in Silay. I noticed how really wide the roads are in the outskirts of this city. Then they get narrower and narrower as you go nearer the center.

This one's in Bacolod. Repairs brought to you by your local congressman. I think it's a road re-widening project. Makes no sense to me.

This is in Talisay City. Kudos to the city for doing asphalt overlay of their roads and for using rubberized paints.

This is the road to the New Bacolod-Silay Airport*. The sky is blue.

This is my favorite part...

I'M FLYING!!!

Of course I did this on the way back when my father wasn't in the car anymore. He would have stopped me from going over 80 kph. I would have gone faster but there was this (relatively) slow van in front.

*A misnomer since its 11km from Bacolod.
